[News] Video Games: Favorite E3 2012 Games

I have been watching all of this year’s E3 conferences, yes even the ones at 3 in the morning here in Europe. I was hoping for much more I have to admit, but after some thoughts, I decided to make a list of my top 8 favorite games that we saw during the conferences this year. This is of course based on trailers or gameplay videos only, since I couldn’t play the games myself  😉

1. Beyond : Two Souls
My biggest surprise for this year’s E3 was definitely Beyond : Two Souls. People who know me, know how much I love Heavy Rain and how often I’ve played this game. So seeing David Cage appearing on stage to present a new game was wonderful. Even better, Ellen Page will play the main character in this game and it already looks very promising.

2. The Last of Us
No surprise here, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is a must on every list concerning E3. Already the few trailers released before E3 made you want to play the game immediately but after showing some gameplay elements… I was speechless. And I was for sure not the only one.

3. Watch Dogs
When they showed the trailer, I had absolutely no idea what was going on or what to expect. But then they played the game for a few minutes and my jaw dropped. It looks stunning and immediately reminded me of a mixture of Heavy Rain and GTA. I cannot wait to see what else this game has to offer.

4. Dead Space 3
I knew that such an announcement would come and I was already excited for it. But after seeing the trailer… I couldn’t handle my excitement for this game. I think that the co-op is an excellent idea, since I was playing the first game for hours with a friend and now we will be able to play it together. You can of course play alone without the other character on your side. As for the action, yes it might look like Lost Planet and be a bit more action-packed, but come on; this was just a very small part of the game. We can’t say if the rest of the game will also be like that or keep the good old Dead Space style.

5. Assassin’s Creed 3
Ubisoft stunned everyone with trailers and gameplay from the newest Assassin’s Creed game. It looks extremely promising and as much as I love Ezio, it’s good to change to a new character now.

6. Resident Evil 6
After a trailer that blew everyone away a few months ago, Resident Evil 6 needs to be on this list. Not only will Chris and Leon be in this game (which is always a plus point for me), but they will all have separated stories. What I really liked when I saw the gameplay footage, was that it looked like they’ve learned from their past mistakes and added new interesting elements to the game. I cannot wait to play at least the demo of this and before you ask, yes I am one of these people who bought Dragon’s Dogma also for the Resident Evil 6 demo  😛

7. Tomb Raider
It has been too long since we haven’t gotten any news about Lara Croft’s newest adventure. I am still as excited to get my hands on this game as I was a year ago. Poor Lara seems to go through a lot but the game looks gorgeous and I hope that the gameplay will be as varied as it looks in the videos.

8. ZombiU
Ubisoft really knows how to please me. Give me a new Zombie game and I am in heaven. The trailer of ZombiU really reminds of Dead Island but still seems to be a bit different from that one. While it seems like this game is an exclusive WiiU title, I already read online that they would consider going multiplatform. A good idea? Not quite sure since I suppose that many people would still consider buying this console maybe for this game and I am one of these. But I would still wait a few months if they don’t announce anything new in between. But whatever the console, I am really excited to play this game.

I actually wanted to go for 10 games, but right now, I’m looking at the other ones they announced and even if I want to play all of these, I’m not as excited as for the 8 just mentioned. But I will still name the ones that I considerate as worth playing as soon as they come out:

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, God of War: Ascension, Ni Nu Kuni, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Sleeping Dogs, Rayman Legends, Dishonored, Dmc (Devil May Cry), Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4: The Golden, Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation and Little Big Planet.

I am currently working on another article where I will share more general thoughts about this year’s E3 and consoles in general.
